Revaree vs Replens: which vaginal moisturizer is better?

Revaree vs Replens comes down to format and condoms. Revaree is a hyaluronic acid insert used every 2 to 3 nights and isn't condom-compatible. Replens is a polycarbophil gel used every three days, and its directions say it works with latex condoms. In a 2022 trial of 53 women, polycarbophil gel worked as well as hyaluronic acid gel.

Revaree is a hyaluronic acid insert that isn't condom-compatible; Replens is a polycarbophil gel that works with latex condoms. A 2022 trial found the two gels equally effective.

Revaree vs Replens: expectation vs reality

What people often expect

“Revaree must be stronger than Replens because it's made with hyaluronic acid”

What the evidence shows

In a 2022 trial, 53 women used polycarbophil gel, the Replens ingredient, or hyaluronic acid gel for 30 days. Both improved vaginal health and sexual function, with no difference between them, and hyaluronic acid added no extra benefit. The trial tested gels, not the branded products.

Revaree vs Replens: ingredients, use, evidence and cost

Revaree vs Replens ingredients

Original Revaree is 5 mg of hyaluronic acid with semi-synthetic glycerides and sodium salt; Revaree Plus has 10 mg plus sweet almond oil. Replens lists purified water, glycerin, mineral oil, polycarbophil, carbomer, hydrogenated palm oil glyceride, methylparaben, sorbic acid and sodium hydroxide. Both are estrogen-free. Bonafide says Revaree is paraben-free; the Replens description says the same, although its listed ingredients include methylparaben.

How Revaree and Replens work

Both are vaginal moisturizers, not lubricants: you use them regularly to keep the vagina moist, not only before sex. Bonafide says the hyaluronic acid in Revaree attracts and holds moisture in the vaginal lining. Replens says one application gives up to 3 days of hydration. Experts advise choosing a moisturizer whose pH and osmolality are close to natural vaginal fluid.

How to use Revaree vs Replens

Revaree is a solid insert: at bedtime you push one into the vagina with your finger, stay lying down for 30 minutes and repeat every 2 to 3 nights. Replens is a gel in a tube with a reusable applicator, used every three days or as needed. If you want to use Replens around sex, apply it at least 2 hours before. You may notice residue or discharge when you first start.

Revaree vs Replens: what the trials show

No trial has compared the two brands directly. In the 2022 gel trial, polycarbophil and hyaluronic acid worked equally well over 30 days. In a 1997 trial in 45 breast cancer survivors, dryness fell 64% with Replens and 62% with a placebo gel, while painful sex improved 60% against 41%. A 2026 meta-analysis of 11 trials rated the evidence for hyaluronic acid as moderate.

Revaree vs Replens with condoms

Bonafide says Revaree isn't compatible with condoms, and Revaree Plus isn't compatible with natural rubber latex, polyurethane or polyisoprene condoms. The Replens directions say it's compatible with latex, polyisoprene and polyurethane condoms, but the description on the same listing says it isn't recommended with polyurethane ones. If you use condoms, Replens with latex or polyisoprene condoms is the clearer choice.

Revaree vs Replens side effects

Neither has shown serious harms in trials. Bonafide reports no serious adverse events for Revaree, and the 2022 trial reported no adverse events with either gel. Both treatments in the 1997 Replens trial were well tolerated. Expect leakage with Revaree, which is why it's used at bedtime, and residue or discharge at first with Replens. Revaree Plus contains almond oil, so skip it if you're allergic to almonds.

Revaree vs Replens cost

A one-time box of Revaree costs $63 plus $5 shipping on Bonafide's site, Revaree Plus costs $65, and subscriptions start at $47 a month (checked October 2026). Bonafide offers an HSA or FSA eligibility check through Truemed. A Replens tube holds 14 applications and comes with one reusable applicator; prices vary by store, so check the retailer before you buy.

Revaree vs Replens vs vaginal estrogen

In a 2024 trial of 300 women, vaginal hyaluronic acid improved overall vaginal health as much as vaginal estrogen after a month, though estrogen did better on dryness itself. NAMS says products like Revaree and Replens give enough relief for most women with mild symptoms, while low-dose vaginal estrogen is effective for moderate to severe symptoms. You can use a moisturizer alongside vaginal estrogen if you need both.

Revaree or Replens: which to choose

Choose Revaree if you don't need condoms and prefer a pre-dosed insert to an applicator, and Revaree Plus if you want the higher dose and have no almond allergy. Choose Replens if you use latex condoms or prefer a gel you can apply with an applicator. If neither helps after a few weeks, vaginal estrogen is the usual next step and is safe for most women.

Choosing between Revaree and Replens

  1. If you use condoms, choose Replens with latex or polyisoprene condoms: Revaree isn't condom-compatible.
  2. If you're allergic to almonds, skip Revaree Plus; original Revaree has no almond oil.
  3. If you avoid parabens, read the ingredient list on the Replens box: the listing includes methylparaben.

Revaree vs Replens: questions women ask

Is Revaree better than Replens?

Not on the evidence we found. In a 2022 trial of 53 women, polycarbophil gel, the Replens ingredient, worked as well as hyaluronic acid gel, and hyaluronic acid added no extra benefit. Revaree's advantages are its pre-dosed insert format and the higher-dose Plus version. If you use condoms, Replens is the practical choice, since Revaree isn't condom-compatible.

Revaree or Replens for painful sex?

Both can help. In a 1997 trial, painful sex improved 60% with Replens against 41% with a placebo gel, and hyaluronic acid trials show better sexual function scores. For sex itself, add a lubricant: moisturizers work between times.

Are Revaree and Replens hormone-free?

Yes. Bonafide says Revaree contains no hormones, and Replens is estrogen-free. That makes both an option when you can't or don't want to use vaginal estrogen, though estrogen remains the stronger treatment for moderate to severe dryness.

Which works faster, Revaree or Replens?

Bonafide says Revaree can ease dryness in as little as nine days. In the 1997 Replens trial, most of the benefit appeared within the first 2 weeks, though the placebo gel improved almost as much. Allow about a month before judging either.

Revaree or Replens for itching?

In a 2024 trial of 300 women, vaginal hyaluronic acid did better than vaginal estrogen on itching, so Revaree may suit you if itching is your main symptom. We found no comparable data for Replens. Itching with unusual discharge, a smell or sores needs a doctor to rule out infection.

Are Revaree and Replens safe with condoms?

Revaree isn't: Bonafide says it isn't compatible with condoms. Replens directions say it works with latex, polyisoprene and polyurethane condoms, though the description says it isn't recommended with polyurethane ones. Latex or polyisoprene condoms with Replens is the clearest option.

Do Revaree or Replens contain parabens?

Bonafide says Revaree is free of parabens. The Replens description says it's made without parabens, but the ingredient list on the same listing includes methylparaben, so read the box you buy if you avoid them.

Revaree or Replens after breast cancer?

Both are hormone-free. Replens was tested in a 1997 trial in 45 breast cancer survivors, and non-hormonal options are the usual first step after breast cancer. Check with your oncology team before you start either one.

Do you need a prescription for Revaree or Replens?

No. Revaree is sold directly by Bonafide and Replens in stores and online, both without a prescription. NAMS says non-hormonal products like these give enough relief for most women with mild symptoms; for moderate to severe dryness, prescription vaginal estrogen works better.
